CHILDHOOD
Prashna Sakya is the eldest daughter of Binod Sakya and Sumitra Sakya. She was born on April 26, 1981. She has two other siblings. "I was raised up by my maternal grandfather and grandmother. And I spent my entire childhood at my mother's place." More as a granddaughter, I was brought up as their own daughter adds Prashna.
Looking back to the yesteryears she remembers that she was a very mischievous child and a very pampered one as well. She never had any interest in her studies. She informs with excitement that then she had excelled in climbing trees. "Once, I stole a fruit and gave it to my mum. She got so pissed off that she thrashed me like anything. The other time, I happen to notice a two rupee coin under the pillow. I took it and together with my aunt, we bought a sweet and ate it. The history was to return. Again I got smash from my mother. Not only that, I was locked up in a room where there were loads of cockroaches. Now, I had learnt my lesson. This two incident is still fresh in my mind." shares Prashna.
School days passed by with fun and frolic. However, she hop around from one school to the other. The first one to attend was Jaljala Sishu Sadan. After this, Jiwan Jyoti, Bijaypur and
JOURNEY IN THE MUSIC SCENE
For Prashna, studying was never a cup of tea. Never did she show any keen interest in her studies. Whenever, exams used to knock at the door, she was sent to her home by her grandmother. However, this never helped. Once, she was sitting with her sister and they started singing. From the other room, they heard her father's order -- "Don't tune in to the cassette!" But who cared! They continued what they were doing. Whenever their father used to beat them, the tool had to be his slippers. She tells that still, the size of slippers -- number seven -- strikes her mind and she tends to get a bit scared about it. "Then also, after we turned a deaf ear to his sayings he came in our room with the intention to punish us. However, after seeing us sing he just stood by the door and listened to us. I am sure, we were able to create an impression. Now on, he used to tell every guests in our home that his daughters sing very well. He used to be all praises for us regarding our vocals."
Music Media, Dharan plays a crucial part in Prashna's musical career. In 1997, she made her debut in the Music Industry of Nepal with her solo album 'Hi Hellow'. Meantime, she was able to bag the sixth position in a 'Modern Songs Competition' organized by Radio
OPINION REGARDING FEMALE VOCALISTS
I believe that one has to struggle in every aspect of work to get to that position they have dreamt about. She feels in the Music Industry of Nepal too participation of female vocalist is growing everyday. "If one has a formal education regarding music it is not impossible to succeed but there has to be a continuation. Media also plays a vital role in the development of the artist. Their support also plays a crucial part in the development of any artist. But when it comes to female artist there are certain things that is compromised as well. For instance, female artists are not given the freedom as enjoyed by the male artists. Society and its belief are still dogmatic in the sense to judge female artist and the way they look up to the female artists."
ME, MYSELF
I am a very moody and a emotional person. I think I am a bit of a lazy bone as well but if there is mood I am a workaholic. I like spending time with my family and also love to stroll with my friends. At times, I like to listen to soothing music and just be myself.
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
I always feel there is someone made for me and the feeling only gives me immense happiness. Life is incomplete to anyone without their partner. I give preferences to arrange marriage rather than love marriage. I want to marry only after two three years. As for now, I want to more concentrate in my studies and music. "My husband will be the one who is understanding and sincere. Not forgetting of course, he has to have personality as well. Till date, I have not found anyone who fits the bill...perfectly!"
